I was born in Spain and raised in Argentina. I probably should explain at this point the Josefina (Lolina) thing. My second name is Dolores and Lolina is the nickname I got at the time I was born. It is a variation of Lola, which is the official nickname in Spain for those unfortunate beings named Dolores. I do not think Josefina is much better, so I definitely go by Lolina whenever I can.

I have lived in the United States since 1984. I am married to Larry Hughes, a mathematician turned programmer. Larry spent many hours putting my writing into this webpage. Larry, our doggies Brandywine and Sofia (alias Apocalypse), and our feline princess Tigger are at the center of my life. Our gentle Toto died in 2002 and we miss him very much. We adopted Brandywine, Sofia and Toto at the Las Cruces animal shelter, while Tigger just showed up at our front door. Larry, our doggies and I have walked many miles along the beautiful trails of New Mexico and elsewhere. There is nothing quite like huffing and puffing and wondering what the hell one is doing, only to have the answer revealed at the top of a mountain.

As you can see, I need a lot of wild places. Fortunately there are many people working very hard to keep those places alive and wild. You can learn about some of those people by clicking here, here or here.

I claim the right to know what is in my food and in the soil that nurtured my food by putting my shopping bucks into organic fare.

I believe what A.J. Muste once said, "There is no way to peace. Peace is the way."

What else? I like to listen to classical music, although sometimes an Argentinian tango is the thing that hits the spot. I am learning to care for a large and happy family of New Mexican native plants. I am grateful for the growing number of interesting restaurants in Las Cruces and for the Mesilla Valley Film Society.
