Faculty: Mary Ballyk (Mathematical Biology and Ecology); Ernie Barany (Applied Dynamical Systems, Control Theory); Marcus Cohen (Mathematical Physics); Tiziana Giorgi (Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations, Numerical Analysis); Martin Krupa (Dynamical Systems); Joe Lakey (Harmonic Analysis, Wavelets); Maria Cristina Mariani (Mathematical Finance, Mathematical Physics); Robert Smits (Probability, Stochastic Processes).
Emeritus Faculty: William Julian (Mathematical Physics)
Doctoral Students: Hubert Noussi, Scott Izu
Group Research: We are working on a variety of applied problems , and members of our group have research on topics like Chaotic Dynamics in Chemical Reactions, Cosmology and Particle Physics, Mathematical Finance, Microbial Growth and Interaction, Semiconductor Devices, Statistical Mechanics, Superconductivity, Voltage Collapse in Power, and Vortex Dynamics. Our work has appeared in a number of applied journals such as International Journal of Theoretical and Applied Finance, JDE, Microbial Ecology, Mathematical Biosciences, Nonlinearity, Physical Review B, Physica D, as well as those of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
Applied Mathematics Seminar: The Applied Mathematics Seminar
meets on Wednesdays at 1:30 in SH235. This is a forum for discussion of
research and current results. Additionally, we invite speakers from other
departments (Biology, Electrical Engineering, Physics, etc) to inform us
of the issues currently of interest in these disciplines.
