B. RESEARCH
1. Research interests.
Applied mathematics
(i) Probability and Statistics: Foundations of random set theory and its statistical analysis of imprecise observed data such as coarse data , with applications to biostatistics.
(ii) Uncertainty Analysis in Intelligent Systems: Exploring the connections between random sets and various types of uncertainty encountered in intelligent systems for decision analysis.
My actual research interests in applied mathematics center around statistics of imprecise observations. Specifically, my research efforts consist of studying mathematical modeling of random phenomena in which measurements or observations are not precise. Examples of such situations are in spatial statistics and biostatistics (coarsed data due to data grouping, missing data, ...). The building block for statistical inference in such situations is the concept of random sets generalizing classical stochastic modeling tools such as random vectors, stochastic point processes. This concept of random sets turns out to be also useful for modeling of various types of uncertainty encountered in the study of intelligent systems in computer science and engineering, such as fuzziness and possibility measures.
(iii) Multi- criteria decision-making under risk: Providing theory and computations for real-world problems of decision-making using Choquet integrals as non-linear operaors for data fusion. The research will have as outputs decision support tools for decision-makers in a variety of problems.
